What other trends do you feel are important in the ever changing world of internet marketing?

The Google Facebook War is in Full Swing

In effort to keep everyone informed about Google’s efforts to enter the social media space, I’d like to share an amazing article I found on today. These guys did an excellent review of the Google happenings. I thought about summarizing it because it is 3 pages long but…it’s really good and I didn’t want to take anything away from it. Enjoy and as always post your thought.
7 Reasons Why Google+ Will Succeed (and 1 reason why it will very likely fail)

Facebook Ads Manager Gets a Facelift

New Facebook Ad Manager Pic

As of yesterday Facebook updated its Ads Manager interface with new visuals and campaign performance data. The improved metrics and graphs should help advertisers better understand and manage Facebook Ads.

Here is a guide to the new interface Guide to New Facebook Ads Manager

Some of the new Facebook ad campaign metrics include:

Campaign Reach – the number of individual people who saw your ads in this campaign during the date period selected, this is different to impressions which includes people seeing your ad multiple times. The concept is very similar to “Unique Visits” on Google Analytics
Frequency – the average number of times each person saw your campaign ad
Social reach – the people who saw your ad with the names of their friends who liked your page, RSVPed to your event or used your app
Connections – the number of people who liked your page, RSVPed to your event or installed your application within 24 hours of seeing your ad
Clicks – the number of clicks your campaign has received
CTR – the campaign click thru rate
Spent – the amount of money you spent on Facebook ads

The new Facebook audience metrics are:

Targeted – the approximate number of people seeing your ads based on the targeting options you have selected
Reach – the individual number of people who saw your Facebook ads
Social reach – the number of people who saw your Facebook ads because their friends like your page, RSVPed to your event or use your app

There is also a new inline ad management system and a creative library.

New inline ad management
• With the previous interface a lot of time was wasted loading when clicking back and forward to manage individual Facebook ads. Now you can quickly click one of the ad rows in your Ad Manager screen and the ad will drop down allowing you to quickly preview the ad and click-through the various elements of its individual performance without leaving the Ad manager.

New Creative library
• Facebook has created a central database of all your campaign creatives allowing for scalable campaigns and also the re-use of previous ads in your new campaigns. The platform allows you to view all campaigns creatives, by campaign but also those campaigns with no adverts yet created, and you can also search via keywords to quickly find the best ad.

Mobile App helps Homeowners Reduce Power Consumption

Mobile Apps have drastically changed the way we live our lives. It would be fair to say that many of these apps today are what the lever or the wheel was to the caveman. One of the most innovative apps I’ve come across recently is the The iPhone MeterRead app by

This app allows you to snyc your power meter with the app. It records energy use, estimates monthly consumption and allows you to track how making little adjustments can save energy, and decrease your bill. The idea is that what is measured improves. In this case, it’s the reduction in energy consumption. This app allows you to reduce your carbon foot print and save some cash.

While I recently found out about this app it’s been around for almost 3 years now. I would love to see Zerogate add some social media features to it. What if you could have an energy saving contest with your friends or your entire neighborhood by auto tweeting or posting every time you read your meter? Or what if the app could text you when you reach a predefined energy KWh threshold? This would allow you to know that it’s time to turn off a few appliances. My assessment. Great app. Lots of opportunity for growth.

Why 2011 with be a Great Year for Business Owners

business graph increasing profits

There are a number of signs pointing the way to a great 2011. While I don’t claim to be an economist many of the business owners I’ve talked to recently have begun to regain hope in the fact that our economy is turning around as they see customer begin to return.

Moreover, the “micro-economy” of my social media marketing firm has begun to see positive growth. This mean business owners are starting to realize that they can not remain afraid in their shells if they ever hope to start turning a profit.
Here are few additional indicators that support by belief that 2011 is shaping up to be a great year.

The Labor Department said Friday, January 7, 2010, that our economy added 103,000 jobs in December, dropping the unemployment rate 0.4 percentage to its lowest level in 19 months.(9.4%). While job growth is still somewhat sluggish, the way I see it, it’s better than were we were a few months ago so I very grateful.

Additionally, the Recovery Act will provide tax cuts for more than 110 million people. The Small Business Jobs Act will put much-needed capital in the hands of entrepreneurs and the HIRE Act offers new incentives for companies to hire Americans who lost their jobs because of the recession.

The Mobile Revolution is Upon Us

Two weeks ago I attended the Social Media Arizona event in Phoenix, Arizona. There were a number of topics covered at this event. However, the topic that intrigued me the most was the rise of mobile marketing. Almost all of the presenters had charts and graphs that discussed the rise of a “mobile mankind” (I just made that phrase up) but it’s totally accurate.

Here are a few statistics:

-There are 6.5 billion people on the planet 5 billion have mobile phones
-85% or 255 million Americans have mobile phones
– Mobile marketing is expected to be the fastest growing segment of marketing. predicts that mobile advertising will be a $6.5B business by 2012
– 23% of mobile phone users had smartphones at the end of 2009
– The use of mobile applications grew by more than 40% in 2009. (2008-2009 ComScore, MMetrics)
– 90% of Text messages are read within 3 minutes
– Mobile click thru rates (CTR) and conversions are double those of email and internet marketing

I could go on all day with statistics like this. The bottom-line is simple. Social media marketing is expected to continue its growth over the next several years and it is converging with mobile devices. Ladies and gentlemen, the mobile revolution is upon us.
